Parallel Carbon’s 2024 was a year of bold strides, transformative achievements, and forward-thinking initiatives. From groundbreaking innovations to strengthening partnerships and scaling our operations, we are getting closer to redefining affordability in carbon removal, hydrogen production, and sustainable fuels. Here’s an overview of our efforts last year:
Building Our Foundation: Manchester R&D Facility
We moved into our Manchester R&D facility for testing our proprietary membraneless electrolyser system. Our new home is pivotal for developing scalable, cost-effective DAC+H2 solutions - providing a structure where we can ensure safe and sustainable operations.
Accelerating Innovation with Black & Veatch
Our selection for the Black & Veatch IgniteX CDR program, supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, facilitated collaboration with experts to engineer, evaluate, and improve the design of our demonstration facility. We exhibited how Parallel Carbon will continuously deliver CO2 and H2 from intermittent power. Black & Veatch’s century-long experience in global infrastructure provides us with the insights and support needed to address the complexities of scaling DAC and hydrogen technologies.

Scaling the Team, Scaling the Mission
We grew from four to nine team members, bringing expertise in process chemistry, carbon capture, electrochemistry, and engineering. This expanded team accelerates our R&D efforts, strengthens our IP generation, and is driving down the cost of achieving global climate targets.
Innovating on a Global Stage
From Norway to Louisiana, our technology and vision took center stage:
Innovate Tomorrow Climate Summit (Norway): Our CTO, Aranzazu Carmona Orbezo, joined a coalition led by Tomorrow’s Air, advocating for the transformative potential of DAC+H2 to decarbonise long-haul travel through our pathway to carbon-negative fuels.

Newlab US DOE-funded Carbon Management Program (Louisiana): We joined Newlab to explore demonstration opportunities in the Gulf Coast’s industrial corridor, advancing the commercialisation of innovative carbon management and clean hydrogen technologies with network members including Shell, Carbonvert, and Louisiana State University.

The Drop (Malmo): Our CTO, Aranzazu Carmona Orbezo, represented Parallel Carbon at The Drop, Europe’s leading climate tech festival in Malmö, Sweden. Organised by Pale Blue Dot and Domino Studio, this event brought together top founders, investors, and experts dedicated to addressing the climate crisis. Aranzazu showcased our groundbreaking advancements in DAC+H2, highlighting our role in delivering impactful technologies.
FECM/NETL Conference: In August, our CEO and Founder, Ryan Anderson, attended the FECM/NETL Carbon Management Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Ryan pitched our DAC+H2 technology as the perfect solution for synthetic fuel and carbon-negative products, engaging with stakeholders, technical experts, and forging connections to advance our mission of scalable, cost-effective climate solutions.
Award-Winning Innovation
UpLink - Top Innovator: Recognised by the World Economic Forum’s UpLink Carbon Capture and Utilization Challenge. We showcased our pioneering integration of mineral-based DAC and low-cost hydrogen production technologies towards unlocking sustainable supply chains for fuels, chemicals, and long term carbon removal.
Sustainable Ventures Hydrogen Innovation Challenge - Finalist: In September, we were named one of the top 10 companies selected for the Hydrogen Innovation Challenge. Over three months, we collaborated with the Sustainable Ventures team to build partnerships and refine our technology approach. The journey culminated in the Hydrogen Innovation Showcase Event on December 5th, where our CTO, Aranzazu Carmona Orbezo, delivered a keynote presentation, spotlighting our transformative technologies.

Breakthrough Tech: Smashing Cost Barriers
We achieved a >90% reduction in equipment capacity costs in 2024 — a testament to our relentless focus on solving techno-economic challenges with novel solutions. And we’re just getting started: we are on track to achieve another 90% reduction by 2025, and again before 2027.
Building Culture: Bonding and Beyond
Our team-building sessions at the Manchester facility and beyond reinforced collaboration, resilience, and innovation – each essential to our mission.

What’s Next?
As we look ahead to the year 2025, we are energised by the challenges and opportunities. Parallel Carbon’s unwavering commitment to techno-economics, innovation, and sustainability will deliver scalable, affordable, and transformative climate solutions. This year we will turn on our DAC+H2 pilot to reduce and remove carbon, in parallel – one step toward delivering technology that drives meaningful change.
